I don't live very far from Purdue (about an hour). In high school, I had no idea where I wanted to go to school. When I was a senior I decided that I wanted to transfer to a school in CA. I ditched that idea due to the fact that I live so far away from California and I had no idea how I was going to get there, how I was going to afford it, what school to go to, etc. It was too big of a jump for me at eighteen years old. I came to Purdue because it's a Big 10 school and I have always wanted to go to a big university, and it has a good reputation in my town, along with IU. That's ALL I knew about Purdue. I didn't know that as soon as you come to Purdue you are labeled as a weird, ugly, racist, close-minded hick who is probably majoring in Agriculture or Engineering. If you go to IU, you are usually labeled as a rich, snobby, good-looking city boy/girl who drowns herself/himself in alcohol. I liked Purdue when I went there for my first year. This was because I was a freshman girl, and when you're a freshman girl you have plenty of frat parties to go to throughout the week. The greek system is huge here. If you don't plan on rushing (I didn't) you're going to get involved with the "greeks" somehow (parties). If you do rush, prepare to be stereotyped every day of your college life. Everyone knows the stereotypes, including the GDIs. The sorority girls talk shit about the GDIs. What I hate the most about Purdue is the campus. It's HIDEOUS. Brick buildings everywhere. Trash. Litter. Gravel. Hardly any plants or trees. Everything is so gray and drab. Don't plan on finding a place to park anywhere on campus. You MUST buy an expensive parking pass. If you try to park ANYWHERE at ANYTIME you will be towed or issued a $20 parking ticket. If you're a girl, don't expect a campus full of hotties. The guys here are UGLY. You will find yourself searching for one cute facial feature. There are also a lot of "weird" people here. Most of the guys are perverts, or creepers and they hit on anything that walks. The apartment complexes in the area are ridiculously expensive and totally not worth it. Meaning: they are trash unless you have rich parents. The city of Lafayette is boring. A small town in Indiana. The mall does not have many stores. Purdue is also ridiculously easy to get into. A lot of people here tried to get into better schools but couldn't, so they came to Purdue. I'm transferring next year.

responseI don't mean to be rude but some of your comments about Purdue are exaggerations to say the least. Maybe you should have learned a little more about Purdue before you chose to live here. I am a GDI and while I agree that there is a separation between greeks and the rest of us, no one talks about you unless you give them something to talk about. People and friendly around here. People hold the door open, pick up something for you if you drop it, say thank you and excuse me. There are always exceptions but in my experience students are friendly if you are friendly. Purdue is the most beautiful place I have ever seen in the Spring. ALL of the trees bloom full of white and pink flowers!! Parking is an issue and Apartments are ridiculously expensive. There are PLENTY of cute guys here and depending on where you find them, they are not all creepers. Purdue might not have the best Liberal Arts Department but many of their programs are world class. I got into Notre Dame but chose to attend Purdue instead and I wouldn't dream of changing my decision! My heart belongs to Purdue!! Boiler UP!!!
So basically you're upset because it's not California - which you knew before attending.
Another problem is probably your major. Psychology. At a state school, everyone gets into a psychology program. Try Chemistry (and actually staying into the upper grad years) - you will be kicked out if you don't develop competency in the subject. Or try engineering with psych as a minor. Most of all, you gave it one year. Your freshman year. No grad from any college takes freshman complaints like that seriously. This is because (high school seniors pay attention here) your freshman year will be difficult, especially if you went to a good university. True at Purdue; at UCLA; at Texas; and most other good (and large) schools. You haven't even been there long enough to learn the many opportunities to have a great time and to learn.
The other problem could be that you have gone to college expecting that the fun people will just come and find you. Understand that it takes work on your part. And generally the crowd that finds you too easily is trouble.
Just an observation from someone who has gone to several (big) universities (and graduated from each)
