St. John Fisher is a very "whitebread" school. Don't expect to see a lot of variety outside of the HEOP students. Freshman dorms are standard, but you may very likely end up in Triple. I spent my entire first semester sharing a 12x16 room with two other girls. We were only detripled because one girl left our room. The staff is primarily friendly, although some make you wonder about the quality of their own education or motives. The first Semester will be obnoxious, full of Freshman Orientation activities and all sorts of stuff when you probably have things to do.If you are taking GENERAL CHEMISTRY be prepared to learn the material entirely on your own. St. John Fisher uses the "POGIL" style of teaching Gen. Chem. which basically means get into groups and fend for yourself. There are plenty of things to get involved with on campus if you're interested. Clubs are abound and there are many club/intramural level sports. Outside of campus, St. John Fisher Campus is located in Pittsford, a small suburb of Rochester. There are a few shopping plazas nearby, but not within walking distance. The nearest clubs are a taxi ride away in the city. Campus gets pretty scarce on weekends. The Dining Halls seems to acknowledge this fact, since they close early on Friday and have spotty hours on the weekends.Work study jobs are slightly difficult to find. There aren't a lot of them, certainly not as many jobs as there are people with work study in their financial aid package. Financial aid is decent, they have a lot of programs that you can get into that have varying benefits. Just make sure to get your FAFSA in by their deadline. The campus itself is SMALL. You can get anywhere on campus in under 15 minutes. Parking is tough if you are a commuter. Resident freshman cannot have cars. There are no tunnels but a fair amount of the buildings are connected in one way or another, which is nice in bad weather.
