Ah Flagler, such mixed feelings I have. On the bright side FC is a small college where (most) professors are willing and able to help you as needed. They know your name etc. I do have to say that Flagler is reminiscent of high school-with its restrictions and conservative ideas about how people should live their lives. Classes are small, which in some respects is a good thing (I've had courses with 6 to 40 students). However class offerings are also very small. Oftentimes a required course will only be offered one or two times a semester (but getting into a class usually isn't that much of a problem). And if for some reason you don't care for a professor and/or his teaching style, you don't have a lot of choices in professors for many courses so you're kind of stuck. FC is not diverse in the least bit, about 97% of students are white upper-middle class and christian. In many ways diversity is quietly frowned upon by the school. Sports are kind of a joke, there is very little school spirit. A good portion of the students are burn-outs and beach bums—academics are not taken very seriously by the students and a lot of the faculty. And unfortunately, the student body is very clicky. The dining hall-while full of character and very pretty-is horrible. 9 times out of 10 the food is barely edible (expect to eat out a lot). So the meal program is by far the biggest waste of money that you will encounter at FC. The dorms are very restrictive and are not conducive to fun and are not always in the best shape. Security is not very reassuring either-mostly retirees who barely tour the campus except to handout parking tickets.
But—the campus is beautiful and very easy to navigate, downtown St Augustine, although annoying full of tourists, does offer a few fun things to do and it's easy to ride a bike or walk to most places. I wouldn't go to FC if you are looking for the "college experience" (you'll be kicked out before you know it) or if you want a rigorous academic education that will prepare you for the outside world. Or if diversity and open-mindedness are important. There are plenty of great things about FC, but I would say that for most people FC is a very tight fit.
