I'm in high school and I've been wanting to go to this college for a while. Mainly because they have the two majors I'm looking for, Geoscience and Environmental science. Reading these reviews are scaring me. Are people really that mean and unsociable? |
I've been to UH foreeevvver. and no i don't think people are mean or unsociable, i think ppl in hawaii are just scared to know new types of people and that might come across like. but i think once u have a group of friends it won't be a problem at all. UH is a great school of environmental type of majors. |
How do you feel about computer science at UH? |
Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
After reading the reviews on here, there are many things I agree with and others not so much.yes, the application is fairly easy to fill out. Yes, the admissions process is not too difficult. Yes, many campus buildings can be compared to a buildings that survived a military attack. Yes, racial thinking and false beliefs exist. Rudeness is practiced in every group. Get over it, sensitive babies.out of state tuition is expensive; that's expected. It's Hawaii and the cost of living is high, angry mainland students should expect this. But I do agree that the financial aid department needs improvement. Faster transactions, dedicated financing consultants, etc. There are local sects of students that do have a pre-conceived notion of "White mainlander" behavior. The same goes for White locals on the mainland when "foreign-looking" students are spotted. I have attended two schools on the mainland and I survived the "racial issue", dramas in relationships because of religion, class systems, etc. Mainland students who come here, won't deal with that much that a Hawaii local student would on the mainland.this isn't an ivy league school that has a strict preference on students. It's a state school that accepts diverse students of various levels of educational ability, financial status, ethnicity, political beliefs, etc. If you want a homogeneous environment where everyone fits your social expectations, go elsewhere. As for the incessant whining in some reviews, if you're an adult, learn how to deal with your petty annoyances. If finances are an issue, find a variety of solutions like a mature adult. If housing is an issue, go the extra mile to make connections with other people. If you're having cultural shock or any dismay towards university life, go see an on-campus therapist or counselor. Hawaii is not boring depending on what your interests are. The diversity of professors and TA's is noticeable. Its your responsibility to get info on a particular one before registering and then regretting it. There are pros and cons but do your part to make your experience satisfying.
