Mitchell College is on one level what you make of it and on another level an all around disappointment. The way it breaks down is that about 10% or less of the student body is made up of extremely intelligent, highly motivated people (such as myself) who had to go to Mitchell for one reason or another. For most of us, it was because we slacked in high school or in a select few cases, the people dicked around, doing all manners of drugs and alcohol until they woke up with a less than appealing GPA and attendance record in high school. The bottomline being that for about 95% of the student body, they're here because they did poorly in high school, for whatever reason. Everybody else chose to come here because they could be home on Friday afternoon in less than 2 hours. How good your education is depends heavily on your chosen major. I'm a Criminal Justice major and I've found my education within the field to be exemplary. I couldn't ask for a much better CJ education. On the other hand, the core curriculum could be fixed. A lot of the classes are simple-minded and drag on. The professors are unorganized, too. Often times this is because they are adjunct and don't really care all that much about their job at Mitchell. It's a side gig. Usually their bread and butter is at Conn College or UConn or something like that. Most of the student body just doesn't care. I'd say at least half flunk out or leave for disciplinary reasons within 1 to 2 years. Of my group of friends/close acquaintances, the group has changed every semester based on who left/flunked out/moved on to greener pastures. It's a sad state. I'm hoping to transfer sometime soon. Oh and also, there's no nightlife. It says it's a dry campus, but about 50% of the students drink like they're on a mission to destroy their livers. We also have a lot of ahem dumb people. Flat out stupid. Some of them can study and get a good grade on tests, but if they were forced to go to a school that adhered to the socratic method of class discussions, they'd be destroyed. If you can memorize but don't care otherwise, go here. This place isn't quite a joke, but it's close. And it's getting worse.
