Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time)
Since the campus tours are totally biased, this seems to be the general feeling about the school that I've gathered from many types of students over my 4 semesters as a transfer student: The school is mostly female, student body is apathetic towards most causes unless it involves veganism, feminism or animal rights, no sense of community, huge gay population both male and female, seemingly everyone is an art major, nothing to do except go to bars in town, athletic students tend to be very clique-y, greek life is visible everywhere but the school seems to lack the stereo-typical frat guy, food/dining choices are horrible, dorm-life is what you make of it…most move off campus after 2 years, student body is diverse, parking is an issue, flocks of canadian geese shit EVERYWHERE, campus looks really nice in warm weather months, town is really close (10 min. walk), campus police are VERY visible and looking to bust students for possession, close proximity to NYC and Poughkeepsie, campus is continuously under construction and disrupts getting to class/parking etc., state school funding is currently being "re-evaluated" so tuition is about to increase dramatically, school's reputation seems to preceed itself, students trying too hard to be artsy and thought provoking, annoying administration red-tape, stay on your advisors so you don't get screwed out of graduating on time, students seem to be lacking a sense of humor, TIP: search for New Paltz tags on youtube and collegehumor…then compare what you've found to other schools you're interested in and draw your own conclusion from that. If I could do it all over, I would probably have gone somewhere else, but that decision is based on what New Paltz has become. It is not the same as it was 2 years ago.
