Date: Mar 10 2009 Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time) Before I attended Columbia College I talked to the staff/faculty there and was told that Columbia was the ONLY school that could land me a job in the visual arts. They said they had the best job placement for artists in the country. This was a total lie. For one, at the end of my last semester I was told by a portfolio department superior that I picked a bad major and that getting a job would be next to impossible. Well, that was the only TRUE statement they gave me. I majored in Photography and minored in Graphic Design. They will tell you before you attend that they have a whole job placement procedure and that all the graduates get great jobs in their fields guaranteed. They have a whole marketing plan in place to trap young artists into thinking that they embody success. DO NOT buy into this idea! Their idea of job placement is referring you to their online job search engine which is an offshoot of Monster.com If you are thinking about going there, just save your money and start looking for work now. You will be better off working and getting experience as opposed to attending Columbia and gaining no real world experience only to be left in the cold after graduation. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL!
