How is art program, say graphic design at GSU? |
Major: Music Education (This Major's Salary over time)
April 2009 will be the end of my first year at Georgia State. I have to say, when I first visited Georgia State, I was very impressed with both the facilities(e.g. library, rec center, b ball arena, performing arts theatre and recital hall) and the students (VERY diverse). I entered into GSU as a music ed. student and I can honestly say that at first, I enjoyed my experience because college was very new to me. But things seemed to fall apart soon after. If youre looking for a traditional college experience with fraternities, sororities, manicured lawns, and school pride, then GSU probably is not the place for you. The reason why I chose GSU is because there nationally recognized music program. Although the program is very challenging and the teachers are very well qualified, the students at this school are very snooty and clique-ish. Rather than working with their fellow students, they constantly have an air of selfish competition (e.g. having the attitude that they always have to out-perform the other students). They make it very hard to be accepted and to make friends at this school. You are constantly being judged. I have been here for almost a year now and I have yet to make one true friend at this school. The SOM teachers also have their favorites. Basically, if you dont constantly kiss up to them, you just get passed by. Otherwise, GSU is a pretty decent school. Although there are some downfalls to GSU, the school is constantly changing and getting better as each day goes by. New construction projects are going on everywhere, adding to the already gigantic campus. Some projects include new freshman dorms, a science center, and frat./sor. housing (in order to accomodate the 30,000+ students that go here). GSU also has the largest student housing complex in the US (the University Commons which is 15 stories tall). We also have a new football team which is slated to begin playing in 2010 along with the marching band. Yes, GSU has alot of cons. But then again, there are many pluses. In my case, Im just making the best of it, for I know things will improve in time. With all these new changes occuring in and around campus, GSU will soon be the Penn State of the South and will probably overtake UGA in about 10 years. The most important thing is to thouroughly do your research before making such a huge commitment of both you and your parents money and time.
