| I
transfered to Texas State from Austin College (a small private
school in Sherman,Tx) in the Fall of '08. My first
semester was a real slap in the face for me.
I was used to a small campus with very short
walking distances around campus and small class sizes. At State
i had AT LEAST a 15 minute walk everywhere, and
my smallest class to date since ive been there was
about 75-100 whether everyone was there or not. I also
found the classes to be very challenging. First Semester there
i took all core classes (basics) just to get a
few out of the way. I honestly wish i took
those at a junior college somewhere because they kicked my
ass. but second semester I began taking classes more toward
my major and minor and im having a blast and
i havent missed a single class yet. It's really about
what you're interested in and who/how it's being taught to
you that will fuel you're success at this school academically.
Socially, if you played sports in high school I highly
recommend joining a sports club. It's a great way to
meet new people, stay in shape, and have an awesome time.
For example, I joined the Rugby team here. The guys
on that team are like brothers to me, we are
very successful, and we know how to party. They are
also very efficient about having us keep our grades up
and understand when we cant make games or practices because
of tests/projects. That's just one example of the MANY things
you can do at State, but if you're not much
of a team player, we just redid our Recreation Center
on West Campus and it's amazing. Plenty of lifting stations,
an indoor pool and track, and plenty of basketball and
raquetball courts to fit your needs. I've always wanted to
go to this school since i was a little kid
when I found out how awesome it is, and now
I'm living it and I don't ever want to leave. Best decision I've ever made.
