How can you say that you skipped the classes because they were a total waste of time?? 1) if you were not in class then you have no idea if they were wasteful..2) if your spanish got worse, then you obviously DiD need to be in those classes.. it got worse because you were not practicing!! you cant expect to be fluent in any language unless you are speaking and hearing it on a regular basis.. i use 2 speak spanish almost perfectly, and i taught myself by watching tv in spanish, and leaving it on while i slept.. (similar to hypnosis u can say) and by speaking it with friends who were mexican.. but, i quit seeing those friends, and a yr later i cant remember some of the things i use 2 know.. i still know most, but i cant believe how fast those few things went away.. u need 2 switch majors sweety.. ur never gonna learn a language or ANYTHiNG ELSE with that nasty ass attitude u have.. come back 2 reality.. |
I'm so sorry, I've had a similar experience and my Spanish has gotten progressively worse because of constant exposure to speakers who, even though they are in 300 level classes, can't speak Spanish to save their lives. To the person who responded to you, first of all you probably learnt Mexican Spanish which is not what they teach in class and second, constant exposure to the horrible speakers influence your speach so that you too pick up on bad patterns and habits you never would have done before. He is very well within reality, it just seems that you have super low expectations which seems to be a requirement in order to be content with this school. |
No actually i did learn the spanish taught in class because u cannot make 100s if you're not learning that kind of spanish. and to say you skipped the classes because they were pointless and your spanish got worse is just an ignorant comment because you were not there to know if anything important was taught, and your spanish got worse because u were not studying. if u were studying at all it could not have gotten worse. you are the one with the low expectation. i happen to be one of those people who hear a word once and remember it without even writing it down, so i never had to study and my grammar is perfect in spanish because i was taught in class how to speak properly. some people have to actually study to learn, and obviously he is a lazy person who doesnt want to study and therefor got "worse" |
Major: Language - French/Spanish/etc. (This Major's Salary over time)
This school is a joke. I came here to study zoology, wound up switching to languages when they caught my interest (and the zoology classes were full). As a language major, I expected my classes to be directed at language majors; you know, so we could actually learn something. I skipped most of the intro classes because they were a complete and total waste of time. So were the 300-level (Junior-level) classes. And the 400-levels (Senior-level). My entire education here has taken place outside of the classroom - in fact, because I was planning on graduating with some degree of fluency, after five classes where my spanish actually got WORSE, I decided to transfer to a tougher school. The beaches are overrated, the staff caters to people who don't care, rather than those who want to learn, but if you go the extra mile, you can make this university worth the buck. In-state tuition. With the WUE, however, there is really absolutely no reason to come here unless you plan on studying Meteorology or some east Asian language (Japanese/Chinese/Korean).
