Not as bad as people make it seem. Some students may put USM as their "fall-back school". I heard the freshman retention rate is around 50%. In turn some students come here expecting a cakewalk. When in reality they end up failing most classes and wind up not coming back. The four year graduate is a rarity at this school as opposed to other schools where it is the norm. The actual education is not bad; after all it is a University with professors with high degrees of education. As for the social aspect, Maine can be a boring place in general. It is up to the individual to stay active and not become depressed during the winter. Overall, USM was a good experience and Im glad I came here.
