Major: Music Education (This Major's Salary over time)
Overall it seems the music department, specifically the Music Education major, is the only thing at Elmhurst College that is run by intelligent and educated people. The campus overall, especially the administrative side, are simply not here for the students' or the colleges' best interest. The college wants to raise our tuition amount blaming the poor economy and inflation, yet they spent over 28 million dollars on a dorm that fits only about half the students should and also spent 1.5 million dollars on a house for our campus President who not only has done nothing for the campus this year (since inaugurated) but is not even living there claiming the house is in too much dis-repair for he and his family to live comfortably in the house. The motto for this college that is rammed down prospective students and incoming freshmen throats is and most of the faculty and certainly all of the staff here do not live up to what the slogan promises. Residence life has decided that all of the hard working upperclassmen (specifically education majors) are no longer allowed to live in the dorms. Instead we have to find campus housing, live in the prospect apartments (section 8 housing) or find residence of our own- and they STILL charge you an unrealistic amount of money to attend class here. This school overcharges it's students for mediocre cafeteria food and daily education. The education I have received here so far (minus my music classes) is no better than the education I received attending a Chicago Public Schools High School. I am certainly ill prepared for the real world now, and do not see that changing before I graduate in two years. The out of pocket expenses here are also insane. The book store is expensive and completely unreliable. I bought books from it my freshmen year but now get all of my materials (including pens and pencils) from online book stores like half.com and big box stores like Walmart and Target for my supplies.
