This is pretty much how the school breaks down…
  • With the exception of a few, most professors on campus are very helpful to their students. They are approachable and usually willing to speak to you about any concerns you may have at the time. I don't think I've ever had an academic concern that I was unable to address with a faculty member of the college.
  • Smaller class sizes is a very beneficial aspect academically. Teachers notice you and can adjust easier when their methods aren't working as planned.
  • The students on campus are all very friendly and welcoming. While it surprisingly is very cliquey for a college, students generally get along with everyone. Such an environment makes getting involved in extracurricular activities much easier and more rewarding.
  • Being such a small community (though growing each year), students can really contribute something to the campus in whatever fashion they like (extracurricularly)
  • The college provides students with excellent resources, such as the student tutors and the library.
  • The college campus is one of the nicest you'll see. Hands down.
  • The tuition continuously increases and its starting to become very difficult to keep up with. While most students get some form of financial aid from the school, the ideal number you expect to receive is rarely met the more the tuition increases.
  • Pretty much all aspects requiring out-of-pocket expenses are a rip-off. The bookstore is unreliable and overpriced. For students with meal plans it is less evident, but the cost to eat on campus is outrageous as well. Avoid both places at all costs.
  • Parking is complete insanity at Elmhurst. While some efforts are being made to prevent such a problem, very little progress has been made. It would seem that a lot more effort could be placed in this area but isn't. My guess is because, on average, Campus Security can write up a handful of $25 parking tickets each day. To this point its become another standard source of income.
  • The housing policy…I'm sure its been made clear what went wrong there. It's all a result of a new college President.
  • …so there it is. You take the good with the bad. Elmhurst provides a very good education; however, the amount it costs is questionable, along with every other expense the college asks from you. If you live across the street and make a million dollars, then this is definitely a great school. If you don't, then its debatable.
