Major: Communications (This Major's Salary over time)
Keep in mind that the sudden influx of negative reviews of ECU all occurred within the same time frame and all have exactly the same complaints. Kinda shady to me…ECU is a nice school. Its not really challenging at all, but it really depends on your major. A friend of mine majored in journalism and has basically no homework and never studies yet passes her classes. On the other hand another friend in the city planning major has homework all the time and has to study a lot. The general education classes are rather poor. Most classes have between 50-200 people in them so there's no way to get individual attention. The lectures are boring, classwork is non-existent besides quizzes and exams and homework is non-existent period. Some classes though are very good, teachers who know your name, work that challenges you. A lot of people think ECU is easy to get into, and they used ot be right, but I know of 2 girls I went to school with who had GPA's between 3.0-3.5 with AP classes that were both denied acceptance. I got in with a 3.7, no AP classes, but a ton of dual enrollment college classes. I'm only here to finish up my general ed classes, which I did the first semester, then I'm transferring to UNCW for the major I want which ECU doesn't offer. The faculty here are all well trained, one discovered a new species of spider and was on the Colbert Report. The students are mostly spoiled rich kids who partied in high school and just want to party even more or dumb rednecks who couldn't get into NC State. The few students who are intelligent either transfer or go into a difficult major to be challenged. The 2 greatest things about ECU are the school spirit and the party scene. Students here are the most spirited people I've ever met. Everyday you're bound to run into at least 10 people wearing an ECU hoody/shirt/jersey and football games are ridiculously spirited with tailgating going on at every game by at least 15 different groups. The party scene, AKA downtown, is pretty good. There a few dance clubs, a LOT of bars, and a couple places for the scene/hipsters to hang. Every night there's someone getting drunk and parties are extremely easy to find. Overall, I'd give ECU about a C-. Academics are sub-par, faculty accesibility is non-existent, but at the same time the students almost all love it here and all the faculty are intelligent and qualified. If you're quiet and shy, this isn't the best place for you. If you're in any way unique, i.e. sarcastic, wear darker clothes, have a brain, then you won't be very happy here.
