I can not believe my years at HPU are almost over! It truly has been the best four years of my life! I came to High Point when it was just starting to make its transformations. Our President is a very well known business man that has made our University "extraordinary"! We use that term often at HPU but it is definitely true. When you step on campus you are immediately smiling because the campus is extremely manicured and everyone is friendly. Students are very happy because we are blessed with so many things.

We have faculty members who give out their home and cell phone numbers, have you over to their own houses for weekend study sessions, and work with you daily to make sure you are prepared for the real world. But just like any other school, the student has to be the proactive one. We are the ones that are here to learn and should be asking for help/making meetings with our advisors and professors. Our faculty members, just like all of the administrators, have an open door policy. If they are in their offices and not busy they will see you. My friends at other colleges have to introduce themselves to their professors and advisors when ever they talk to them. At HPU, everyone knows my name and where I am from. Knowing that my professors know my name and work ethic allows me to feel comfortable while expressing my views, beliefs, and opinions liberally in class. Things are different at High Point; everyone cares for each other.

Many people choose a college because of academics and housing. As stated above, academics are top notch and so are our housing options! The residence halls are the best I've ever seen! Each room is beautiful and clean. I visited schools with my brother before I looked for a college and I was completely grossed out. I had expectations of rooms similar to the ones I visited with him. I was pleasantly surprised and excited when I saw the rooms at HPU. Students have sinks in every bedroom, there are only a couple options of hall bathrooms, overhead fans in all the rooms, cable TV, wireless internet, and many of the rooms are apartment style so students can have their own rooms. I do not want to move out because I know any apartment a first year teacher can afford will be a complete dump compared to HPU's housing!

The city of High Point might not be the most exciting place but we have plenty to do. The funny thing is though, most HPU students do not even go out into the city of High Point all that much. We are too busy going to activities on campus. We have theatre productions (we just had Steel Magnolias and it was fabulous), intramural sports to play (10 or so options throughout the year), athletic events (students get free tickets, t-shirts, and food most of the time), Bingo night (the prizes are gifts like a Xbox, gift cards, iPods, etc), concerts (OAR, Young Joc, and Gavin Degraw), formals (two or three school-wide dances), new release movies shown in our student center or on the promenade with snacks provided, and so many other activities keeping us on campus. Greensboro and Winston-Salem are only about 15 minutes away and students go there to hear local bands or visit friends at other colleges.

Parking was a problem when I first started at HPU but it really is not anymore. We have so many locations to park that it is not an inconvenience. If you have to walk 5 minutes to your room or class, that is about 10 minutes or less than most other college students.

I always say, “come to HPU, and you will never want to leave! I definitely do not!
