Originally, I'm from California and was accepted as a Colorado resident, meaning I pay for in-state tuition. The reason why I wanted to attend a college in Colorado because my parents and most of family members are there and claimed that it's a gorgeous state … which is true! I chose MSCD because of the nice tuition of about $3,000-ish per year, compared to other colleges. Besides the nice tuition, I must admit, my college experience is unsatisfactory here at MSCD. As what people say:
College is wonderful depending on how you make the most of it
… methinks. Har har har.
  • ACADEMICS/PROFESSORS: Like any other colleges, MSCD has a wide variety of professors. Some are extremely laid-back, some would teach their class as if their students were in the Ivy Leagues, some wouldn't even care for students and … well, the list goes on. Research your professors before signing up classes. So far, the professors I've met and the class I took are great. Two of them … not so great.
  • ACTIVITIES: There aren't that many activities and clubs to be involved with. There's no self-interest clubs … just academics, sports and research clubs.
  • CAMPUS: The campus itself is not attractive, but that doesn't matter, does it? The buildings are just … decent looking, but what's great is that some old historic buildings/houses are used for academic purposes. It's a small school, about 130 square acres … I think. Nevertheless, the campus is PACKED with a lot of students between 10:30-11:30 a.m.. It's tough for those who are claustrophobic.
  • SOCIAL LIFE: It's hard to approach other students here because they tend to be either aloof or a bit tad too arrogant, which can make other people very uncomfortable, like myself. People I've tried to strike a conversation with usually ends in a minute and their tone through conversing makes it SO obvious that they are totally not interested. As any commuter school, the majority still hang out with their high school buddies. If you know that you won't have any high school friends here, prepare yourself a cellphone with text. You will see a lot of people here use their cellphones to socialize. I am a 2nd year student and still have not made any college friends here. It's oh so very depressing and because of that, I got depressed many times and thus, ruined my whole body and mind.
  • STUDENTS: The students here aren't the traditional 18-24 year olds. You will usually see those in their late 20s through 60s or beyond that. Either way, it seems like the people here are somewhat hard to approach. They don't seem to be interested … or perhaps the fact that they look grave. And yes, we have varieties of students here: the jock, the reserved one, the myspace/facebook avid user, the religious freak … blah blah … etc. etc.
  • TRANSPORTATION: Parking is overpriced, so a lot of students use public transportation, especially the light rail because the I.D can be used as a pass, which is a total money saver. My personal side note: the 12:30-1:00 p.m light rail station at Colfax heading southbound is crowded.
  • I guess that's all I have to say. I'm typing this on a whim, so … forgive me. Overall, I guess this comment is more of a negative-advice. If you have any questions, click "Have a Question?" and ask away!
