Lasell College

I applied to Lasell because the application was free. At first I felt great about being admitted. They gave me a great scholarship and the honors program seemed like something I would really enjoy. I was excited about the fashion program. I had been studying and designing fashion for that time, but didn't want to go to a fashion school because I was not exactly sure that that was what I was going to do with my life.

This is the last few weeks of my time here. Im transferring to a different school. And, not surprisingly, almost half of my class is.

As a high school senior I thought people who did not like their colleges were just not well accepted socially.

At Lasell people do not say hi to one another. My RA walks by me and the other girls in my hall and does not even say hi.

As far as partying goes. It is awful. The first few weeks is new and interesting, you go to peoples rooms and stand around and watch people play beruit, except instead of beer people play with water. The best way to party is to just get very messed up very quickly, because you will be surrounded by the same people, talking about the same things. Parties are broken up quickly and it is very easy to be written up. I was at a party that was broken up where alcohol was present, had to pay a 50 dollar fine, which is not that bad, but i was threatened to have housing taken away from me after a second violation. The girls are vicious to one another and are very superficial. This is by far the most superficial community I have been a part of, and I have been parts of many communities.

Academics are A JOKE. Im not even exaggerating. There are some teachers who are exceptional. Really awesome and very bright and really dedicated to teaching. There are others who don't care, or are very disorganized. A lot of the work in the classroom is busy work, or work that I experienced Freshman year of high school at most. It is very hard to be motivated and to even care because most all students do not. There are few people who raise their hands in class.

The town is also extremely boring. There is absolutely nothing, and the T is not 5 minutes away but 10 if you walk very very fast, and there is hardly a sidewalk to get to it. The T takes FOREVER to get into Boston and ends its transportation at around 1230. You need to have a car on campus, or you need to be someone who doesn't care if they go into the city to shop, walk around, drink, etc.

The cafeteria is awful. There is almost no way to be a healthy vegetarian here. They have sour tofu if they happen to have it, and the salad bar is not just awful, but has brown lettuce. The soy milk is chunky and the real milk usually, not always, tastes funny. However the bagel station is awesome, that is basically my diet.

Before I came to Lasell there was no true picture portrayed for me. They were very interested in having me as a student, they are very interested in having anyone as a student.

Seniors I have talked to say that their first year was fun, but now they are more excited to get out than to actually experience Lasell.

The best thing about Lasell is some of the faculty

The worst thing about Lasell is the student body. I really mean that. I have lost a lot of my optimism regarding compassion in people. One time I was walking back from a party when a drunk girl was on the ground next to her apparent best friend who was saying "don't touch me, ew" and walked away leaving this girl crawling around in the dirt. I've seen upper class men tell peers to "ice off freshman." There was a girl in my dorm who hooked up with her best friend's ex hookup, and then ask this boy, who was a virgin, to have sex with her friend so she and the boy would be off the hook.

IF YOU ARE THINKING OF COMING HERE, SPEND SOME TIME ON CAMPUS, AND TALK WITH MANY STUDENTS, if they let you, AND REALLY THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOU LIFE AND THE PEOPLE YOU WANT TO BE AROUND.
