Positives:

State of the art premed program. UTD is the place to go whether you want to be an engineer, scientist, or a doctor. It's like the MIT of Texas. UTD also has a nice, liberal atmosphere which combines the size of a private college with a science-driven focus. Lots of smart, nerdy students as well. Furthermore, the city of Richardson is very wealthy, and there are so many restaurants to eat within a bike ride or a 4-10 minute driving distance. Only 15 minutes from downtown Dallas, where the nightlife is AMAZING.

Negatives:

One of the big reasons many students drop out after the first year is their primary desire to attend UT Austin. There is also a perceived lack of social life as well, especially because the campus police take their jobs VERY SERIOUSLY (which can be a positive, depending on how you think of cops).

Furthermore, it is the most expensive public university in Texas, so don't come to UTD unless you had a scholarship, or really want to get into medical school. I think the courses can be too demanding, even though I have a 4.00 GPA. The grading system is designed to ruin you (A-minuses do NOT count as a 4.0). The atmosphere can be unnecessarily competitive, and there is too much pressure to study, since that's what everybody here likes to do anyway.
