My degree is in French Foreign Language and Literature and the program and staff are great and knowledgeable. But the university is way too expensive for out-of-state students. I am a third year student now, so I am not going to transfer now but I should have earlier. It would have saved a lot of money. I have resorted to taking classes at another, less expensive university and just transferring them to URI instead of paying a semester of tuition. The university itself is in the middle of nowhere. Most upperclassmen rent houses that are about 15 minutes away from campus. Almost everything a college student needs- groceries, bars, "package" stores, shopping- is about 20 minutes away, so it is crucial to have a car. The university really needs to work on public transportation or changing the dry campus, because with house parties and bars 20 minutes away, there is a lot of drunk driving going on. Lastly, I spent a lot of time at the library and it is really not that great.
