What does BG stand for? |
Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I attended UT from 1996-2000 (I know, eons ago!). I had no idea what I was doing when I was 17 and picking where to go to school- I picked the one where I felt most at home and that happened to be UT. I was an Education major, and earned an Early Childhood/Elementary Education degree. Upon graduating I began working right away in an Elementary school and realized how much I DIDN'T know. I hope that the College of Education has made improvements to their curriculum since I graduated, unfortunately, I do beleive my preparation for the real world of teaching was sub-par. Most of my expertise in my field has come in the years since graduation with experience. In my position now, I often interview perspective teachers and I can honestly say I'd rather hire a BG grad than a UT grad. In my experience, teachers who graduate from BG are much better prepared right off the bat than their UT counterparts. My overall college experience was positive, though. The campus is beautiful, the buildings are well maintained. I have read posts on here about the campus being in the middle of the "ghetto"- so completely not true. It is urban, however, and if you grew up in the middle of a cornfield all urban environments may seem "ghetto" to you. Dorm cleanliness was often an issue- but I think that has to do more with messy students who no longer have mommies picking up after them. The cleaning staff was always around trying to stay on top of it but lets face it- most 18 year olds are slobs. I met some of my best friends at UT- many whom I've formed life-long relationships with and we remain in contact still.
