Whittier College has a history of quashing free speech and a free student press. At the beginning of this academic year, the 'Quaker Campus' student paper on campus published an opinion questioning Whittier College's installation of artificial turf in the stadium while the State of California's suing three artificial turf makers over lead content (only one of the dangers of artificial turf). The paper was forced to apologize, even though everything printed in that opinion was correct, and the online version of Quaker Campus was zapped - no issues of the paper are online from this whole school year. It's really difficult for incoming student families to find out what's really going on at Whittier College. If I had this to do over again, I wouldn't have gone to Whittier College, I wouldn't have to transfer out after finding out the truth about this school. I strongly recommend that everyone thinking of possibly going to Whittier College first see a free site online, www.whittiergate.com, which really tells the truth about this school (it has been online since the 06-07 school year I've learned, I just wish I had known about it sooner!).
