Goucher College

I am a transfer Sophomore at Goucher college double majoring in Communications and Philosophy. While Goucher is a small college, the academic work here is respected by most graduate programs, and student rarely have trouble finding a new school or job after graduations.

While the campus itself is not the most active, the Office of Student Engagement has been really doing their best to find activities that students are interested in with some success. You won't find keggers every weekend, but you have the option of going down the road to Towson U for that. Baltimore is a free shuttle ride away, and if you look at City Paper every week, you can find some free adventure or another.

Goucher is not perfect, but no school is. We have clean buildings, decent food, and a very safe campus. We have a lot of beautiful trees and flowers with plenty of outdoor seating. The staff is almost always nice and willing to make small talk if you engage them.

The faculty is wonderful. The philosophy department is filled with absolutely brilliant people. Every faculty member that I have worked with has been willing to meet outside of class time as often as possible.

The students are disengaged for the most part, which is an unfortunate reality, but if enthusiastic students come here, that will logically change. I get excited about campus events. We had the Liberian president give a talk here for crying out loud!

Look, if you want a highly social school, look else where. Goucher is only social for those who are dedicated to that. Everyone who just waits around for social activity to find them will always be disappointed. But if you care more about meeting cool people, learning from some of the brightest, and smoking hookah anywhere you want outside, then Goucher really is a cool place.
