I'm very disappointed in my experience here. Everyone is a cookie-cutter mold of your average suburban high school student. If you do not want to be involved in Greek life, be prepared to have absolutely nothing to do. Parties are fairly small and exclusive. With such a small student body, gossip and cattiness are rampant. Some of the rumors are just ridiculous. I feel watched and judged everywhere I go, and I'm not even particularly "different." I was never involved in immature drama until I came to Illinois Wesleyan, and now I can't seem to get away from it. I thought that college would inspire me to grow personally and intellectually, but it has had precisely the opposite effect. My academic experience here has been much better than my social experience. Faculty are generally accessible and friendly. Small class sizes are very beneficial in some ways: the quality of feedback on my work has been excellent, and class discussions are easier in small groups. However, it does tend to feel like high school. Larger universities offer a better selection of courses.
