First, let me start off by saying that if you have any inclination of wishing to attend this school, you may want to reconsider. A year ago, I was trying to find a university to transfer to out community college. I had a few friends that already attended SMU so I decided to check out the campus. I instantly fell in love with the campus and how pristine it was and instantly wanted to go there. I should have done my research before I jumpped into the nightmare I got myself into.If you are a rich, wealthy, white person, by all means please attend because im sure you will fit right in. If your from California and/or love to you should also attend because you will be right at home. However, if what your looking for is a friendly, fun student population with great academics, look elsewhere because you wont find it at SMU. The whole year I attended I felt out of place. Yes, I made a few close friends and I cherish those friends that I made but other than that I was always made to feel "less of myself" by students and faculty alike. Im not rich and the students that go there know if your rich or not and will treat you differently if "mommy and daddy" dont have a bank account that matches up to their expectations. On sevreal occasions, I was glared at simply walking across the street to class because of what I was wearing. For the most part, the faculty and courses that I took here made me feel stupid. I have been a straight A student most of my life and I get to this excuse for a university and am met with professors who dont really care to help you and courseloads that are almost impossible to take on, unless youre only taking one class that is. To comment on the social life. Aside from a few good parties that I attended, it sucks, unless your in a frat or sorority that is. All this school is about is the greek life what frat or sorority your in and if your not in one good luck fitting in or getting into a party for that matter. Also, if your not tan, dress in all the "latest fashions" and drive a lexus, mercedes, BMW, etc, you might as well consider yourself "not good enough" because the student population sure will. So, if what your looking for is a greek life loving school full of rich, white people who love to compare bank accounts and see who can drink the most at that "frat party" then this is your school…and you should go right away. However, if you care about your future nd want good academics and a friendly student environmet then steer clear. This school will knock you on your ass in more negative ways than one and you will most likely regret ever going. I am transferring out in the fall and mind you, this is where I worked so hard to get into, and for me, giving up on a dream is a MAJOR deal. So, I repeat, STAY AWAY FROM SMU!!
