For
applied math, the department is great. For theoretical math
the deparment sucks bad. If you plan to go
to grad school, you'd better plan on supplementing your WSU
work with classes at UI (University of Idaho) in order
to get some standard classes offered elsewhere. Topology was
dropped, only 1 semester of Abstract Algebra, no non-Euclidean Geometry,
Complex analysis weak. Many important classes offered only every other
year makes scheduling and graduating difficult.
Faculty are a great
group of people who really seem to care but resources
are just not there. There is not much diversity
in faculty. It's truely just applied math here.
The hallways in the math department have the feeling
of a morgue. Quiet and depressing. The department
really needs some new bright young minds full of hope
and vision. And please, some theoretical mathematicians!
