Okay, BMCC is obviously not Harvard, but it happens to be one of the greatest stepping stones I've used in my life. It's a good school with a very good faculty who are available during their office hours for any assistance you may need. The school also offers tons of free tutoring at all hours of the day, has many excellent places to study, and offers many tools to help students succeed. Depending on what courses you take, I've encountered many great professors who have inspired me to go the extra mile, and use my mind to it's fullest potential. The school offers tons of great extra-curricular activities, and for a community college, has a great social life

Though BMCC does have it's shortcomings. The school does have 20,000+ students, so it is pretty important that you stay on top of your paperwork on things like the CPE, registration, and appeals. Advisement and guidance counselors can be unhelpful, and at times, completely useless given the massive student load they have to work with. If you are registering there next semester, ask about the "Title 5" program, giving you access to an assigned counselor through out the school year, making your college path a little bit easier, something I wish I did. Also, a lot of the student body is just out of high school, so you may encounter a lot of immature students who aren't exactly ready for college, and much rather spend their time at BMCC at The Patriot down the block on Chambers Street than actually studying

All and all though, my best advice I can give…

If I was a more academically focused student prior, and if I had other options, I wouldn't have gone to BMCC, but If you are out of options and are looking for a good chance to turn your life around, BMCC is a really really good place for you if you decide to take yourself seriously like I have in recent years. Though corny, their famous slogan "Start Here, Go Anywhere" is a pretty straight forward message that can pretty much simplify my experiences, my goals, and my achievements at Borough of Manhattan Community College
