Major: Communications (This Major's Salary over time)
I came from a large public high school into a small, warm Christian school. The only word to describe SBU is a community. The environment is loving and accepting. There are ministries and discipleship groups you can get involved in which promote tremendous spiritual growth, but non Christians can feel very welcomed, as long as they are okay with being in a Christian environment. The campus is beautiful. Though small, it is spread out with green, grassy fields and lots of trees. The classrooms are very well-lit, carpeted, and very clean, with comfortable chairs and lots of tabletop space. Most classrooms, but not all, are outfitted with great technology. The faculty is so inviting and friendly! You can tell the student is the top priority over the teacher's research. Faculty will even visit students in their homes and apartments, and invite students into their homes for meals and game nights. At SBU, you feel very taken care of and protected by the faculty. My only negative comment is that some of the general education courses include a lot of busy work. I did not retain a lot of the information I learned in those courses. For some, I did not even have to buy the text book because the course was so simple. However, my classes for my major (Communication) were excellent—involved, great discussion, stimulating conversation with professors and students outside of class, and thought-provoking, passion-inciting material!
