My daughter is looking at the school. We are from Chicago and were a little concerned about her being bored! She likes the tradition and history. We are concerned if the school will have internships for her. She is going in undecided, but is leaning more towards Bus. Admin. Maybe she should just go to Depaul (Chicago) |
The O.U.T. bus system does NOT run at night, which happens to be when most people would use it. The city is also sucking over $500,000 from the U.S. tax payers to fund this failing system. Local taxi service is available for a nominal fee.Oxford is about drinking and football. The education here is horrendous (lack of available necessary classes and coherent teachers), while the town is nothing short of a police state. Be prepared for your first D.U.I. or drunk in public. If you misstep (yes, step off the curb wrong and in the jail you go!) on the square, you may go to jail for drunk in public. There are two pool tables in the city limits. One is at the Blind Pig (an underground pub-like business), and the other is at Parrish's. The bowling alley recently burned to the ground after business slowed down and the local fire department didn't have any pressure in the relief system. This town and university SCREAMS chroneyism. You have been forewarned, now be prepared. |
Major: Chemistry (This Major's Salary over time)
I fell in love with Ole Miss because the campus is beautiful, and the academic programs are supposed to be very good. I had applied and gotten into other more competitive schools and chose Ole Miss over them because when I visited everyone seemed friendly and it seemed like the perfect school for me.However, what they DON'T tell you when you look at the school is the complete lack of social activities and student organizations. They tell you that there are over 200 orgs, but what they don't say is that the majority of those are greek life or pre-professional orgs. Every weekend I find myself sitting in my dorm room because most peopl are out partying… I am completely bored out of my mind and quite frustrated because I know that this is not what college is supposed to be like.ADVICE to future students:If you are not into partying or greek life, you may want to reconsider coming here unless you'll be perfectly happy sitting in your dorm room all weekend. As I said, the majority of the people here go out on the weekends to the bars (they have a bus system that takes students to and from the bars!) and participate in greek life… if you are lookin for a school that has great academics and a great social life/student orgs, this is NOT the school for you. I'm seriously considering transfering out after this year. I'm misrable here because I'm sick of sitting around with nothing to do.
