I've
just recieved my Assoc. Degree in Liberal Arts at NWCC.
Northwest Community College (Senatobia campus) is an AMAZING place to
(so to speak) get your feet wet. Not only
is it affordable, it has a strange mixed feeling between
a high school and college to help a new college
student find his or her feet, all the while the
teachers prepare them for the more hectic, larger and less
personal classes of larger colleges. About 98% of the teachers
are awesome Plus, it has the 2+2 program, which
insures that if you keep your GPA at a certain
level, you automatically transfer to Old Miss (Univ. Of Ms)
if you want.
However, there are some things to be
noted. It is an old school in an old
town. It has a beautiful campus, but there are
some draw backs. If you are looking for a
party life—you won't find it here. Your best chances
are in Memphis, TN (which is about a 45 minute
drive away)and NWCC is in a dry county. That
means if you like to drink, you can't buy beer
or any of that within about 25 minutes of the
campus. These two weren't a big deal for me,
since I don't drink or party. But, there is
also WAY, WAY, WAY too many smokers all over the
campus. In certain areas (around the history building and
English building for example) it's like walking into a smoke
box and you can't flipping breathe. Dangerous for non-smokers
and those with asthma—or who simply want to find a
place to get some clean country air.
Overall, it is
a great school and I loved it. Also, it's
getting a bit of a face-lift now (of course, when
I've graduated). So, more great stuff on the way
from the largest community college in the south.
