Plenty of these negative comments here are arbitrary. For example, those calling it an "average" education, I would love to know what barometer they are using to compare MU to other colleges. Those who are complaining about tough grading policies at MU probably belong at community college. I got A's, many people I know got A's. Not everything you will be tested on will be in included in lecture, that is why you are assigned texts to read. Do it and you will be fine. Some critiques are fair, recreation in Milwaukee is largely based on alcohol. Alcohol is a major presence on campus. If you are not from the upper midwest, I am from California, the winter can be overwhelming, but you cope. The student body is largely from the Chicago or Milwaukee suburbs, but there are students from all over the country. The comments here that call the students snobby or elitist are out of thin air. Just the other day in my graduate seminar, there was a discussion about how the friendliness of the students and faculty at MU was bordering on becoming a negative. If you make the slightest effort you will make great friends. As for the value of the education, the name Marquette carries more weight in Wisconsin and Chicago than elsewhere, but it is nationally recognized. The alumni network is amazing, MU grads really do stick by each other. If you are working in southeast asia (like someone who posted earlier), you should not expect the university to be recognized. I doubt 90% of American universities will be recognized.Over all, Marquette will give you a great education and you will have the time of your life, but you'll have to spend some bucks.
