The new Common Core is sheer genius on behalf of SHU- faced with rising transfer rates and low retention of first and second year students they basically created courses like "CC 104" etc which count as religion or western civ classes at SHU but would never transfer to another school due to their specialized nature. As such, if you try to transfer out of SHU it's very likely another school simply will not accept your credits for the CC courses (AKA 1/2 of your scheduled classes and credits your first year and 1/3 of them your second year) meaning to transfer at the end of your freshmen year you might have 9 credits transfer (as opposed to a potential 30). This is a great way to force students to stay at SHU by hitting their wallets as transferees would basically have to start from scratch at a new university to the tune of $40K per year- a brilliant plan to lock in retention numbers.
