SLC is honestly a magical place. It has opened my mind to the potentialities of art and has invigorated me to merely accept what is readily available in our present culture and society. I have grown to genuinely love and appreciate this school. The classes are never generic - always thoughtfully and intricately created by passionate faculty members to provide the most cultivating experience for faculty member and student alike. Yes, the coursework can be overwhelming but I have never experienced "busy work" here. The reading and written work (lots of papers) are carefully woven into the fabric of the coursework to assure the student's optimal growth. I have always been given a series of paper themes to choose from; this allows to student to gravitate toward what he/she is most stimulated by within the course reading and class discussion. I always find the completion of my papers to be extraordinarily rewarding. I find that I have uncovered insights within my unconscious that I would not have extrapolated had I not had to write a cohesive paper. To me, that seems to be the function of the papers assigned. I have only had incredibly positive experiences of faculty here. Yes, I have heard of the unusual faculty member who does not necessarily adhere to the SLC mission. However, I have yet to experience it myself. My don has always been incredibly helpful in guiding me to the professors who will be most effective for my growth. She has actually discouraged me from taking courses with specific professors she feels I would not be compatible with. I have actually had several professors "take me under their wing" and offer to meet with me to discuss anything I want with them. These professors are working to guide me towards my utmost potential and I know I will be forever grateful to them. I am skeptical that I would have this experience at any other college. SLC was built to facilitate such an experience.
