This is going to be a long review because I have to let people know the truth about Morgan State University before they make the same mistake that I made… which is attending this school. I must let everyone know, particularly if you don't go here already: IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT ATTENDING MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO OTHERWISE. I'M WARNING YOU, THERE ARE BETTER SCHOOLS OUT THERE… WAY BETTER SCHOOLS!! THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO BE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT A FAKE OR A FOLLOWER!!

So, surprisingly there are a few things that I actually do like about Morgan State University. My favorite thing about Morgan State University is The University Student Center. The student center is one of the newer facilities on campus. It is neat, organized, and probably the most positive place on this campus. The activities that go on in the student center are great. The University Student Center is clearly one of the greatest things here at Morgan State University. Another thing that I like about Morgan State is the library. The library is neat, organized and quiet (well… sometimes). The band is also one of the more positive things at Morgan State. Most of the people in band are pretty positive and friendly (from my experience). The range of songs they play is excellent and very wide-spread. The mascot (The Morgan State Bear) is hilarious… and he (I think it's a guy in the costume) makes many Morgan events fun and enjoyable, including the football games (which I do generally enjoy). The size of the campus is great… and I like my teachers that I have this first semester. That's pretty much all I like about the school though.

Now, here is what I do NOT like about the school. I'm sorry but the negative aspects definitely outweigh the positive aspects at this school, so this review is going to be quite lengthy.

The one thing that I absolutely cannot stand at Morgan State is the customer service, especially concerning Montebello and the Bursar's office. The average student will go through some serious problems between their schedule, financial aid, and the lack of communication by the administration. By deciding to attend Morgan State University, you are setting yourself up for dropped schedules (without notification), mismanagement of your tuition money, and running back and forth between different buildings all over campus when they mess up your records (which will more than likely happen at some point during your stay here at Morgan). Oh yeah… and don't plan on changing majors once you've chosen one, because that's setting yourself up to waste about another 3 to 4 hours of your life running around campus. We call this unnecessary running around "The Morgan Shuffle". Avoiding "The Morgan Shuffle" is almost impossible, no matter what your status is here on campus.

Another thing that I really don't like about Morgan State University is the extreme lack of school spirit. During pep-rallies, most students don't even wear school colors (orange/blue). Now what kind of school doesn't wear their school colors to a pep-rally, esp. a college???!!! an HBCU at that???!!! The lack of school spirit here at Morgan was an immediate sign that something is wrong with this school!! Most students don't even wear their Morgan gear or school colors to home football games either. Girls will seriously come to these football games dressed up in heels and such as if this were some sort of fashion show. What kind of school (college, HBCU) doesn't represent their school accordingly by wearing school colors???!!! I am ashamed of how we represent our school at certain events.

Did I mention the people (in general) here at Morgan state? The people here are absolutely ridiculous!! Most of the people (staff) that work throughout campus are miserable… and it shows!! The lunch people that work in the Refac (Rawling's Dining Hall) and the Canteen (located in the student center) are angry and rude and they take their frustration out on you… as if it were the students' fault that they have these jobs. The people that work in the buildings throughout campus are miserable in general… like at least 90% of them are. I am far from miserable, so naturally I try to avoid these people. Of course it's hard since I go here… you know. Supposedly misery loves company? but they aren?t getting my company.

I've had good experiences with my teachers so far… except for a lack of communication by e-mail. Most teachers forget to e-mail students when they cancel classes, so this forces students to have to commute all the way to class without a reason! There are many teachers here that don't care about the students. Luckily, I don't have any of those…

Don't get me started on the students that go here. They are even more ridiculous and outrageous than the employees that work throughout campus. I honestly believe that most of these students care about their schoolwork. I have classes where half the students don't show up on a daily basis… and it's not like they're sick. They oversleep… or they don't "feel like" going to class? because I see them later that day hanging outside Rawlings somewhere. I know a lot of people that are currently failing multiple classes here at Morgan State and don't seem to care too much about it… putting their parents' money and/or the government's money to waste. I get a generally negative vibe from the people on campus as a whole. Morgan State supposedly is choosy about their students, so why is it that there are so many careless students here? Also, many students seem to only care about weed, alcohol, parties/clubs thrown by these party promoters, chilling outside until the early morning hours doing illegal activities, and who is somebody that they consider to be "important" on campus (which are usually not the people who are achieving, but the people who are in The Union, First Family, The Fly Society…) These people are promoting these overrated, expensive parties by passing out flyers on the bridge (blocking walking space on the bridge) while people are trying to go to class. The flyers always end up being all over the campus grounds, making the school look trashy. The parties are almost always at clubs (never on campus!) The only campus parties are at Thurgood, Marble Hall Gardens, or MorganView and they are rare. If you plan on partying, be prepared to spend a bunch of money for no reason. Although, the parties are fun sometimes (I must admit), they are normally overpriced, and the flyers often lie about the price? and even lie about what time the shuttle comes sometimes. Bring extra money as well, because they will change the price at the last minute and won't let you in if you don't have the right amount of money (unless of course you are real, real, real tight with whichever promotion company is throwing the party). Many freshmen are desperate to fit it with these promotions companies when they get here. I'm just glad I'm not in any of them, they're all just big cliques… and most of the people in them (particularly underclassmen) aren't getting the best grades. A lot of the people in these "cliques" are also fake, conceited and stuck up for no apparent reason. I met a few promoters that I do like though. Also, expect to stand outside these clubs for several minutes (or sometimes hours) trying to get in. Meanwhile, there are rats lingering around you. Remember, this is Baltimore! Rats run wild here. Oh? and I can?t forget to mention the fights that happen 2 and 3 o?clock in the morning, after the clubs let out.

If you come here and you have any type of class, please don't think that you're going to find your future girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/soul mate here. The boys here are of low-quality. I've been here for a whole two months and no boy has made me even look twice at him. I swear I don?t have the slightest crush or interest on any boy here! Most of them aren't attractive: they smoke/drink/get high all the time, they're rude, and they simply don't keep up with their appearance. The girls here aren't much better either. Most of them aren't classy? they're fake, and ghetto… and they have the nerve to demand respect from these boys. If you come here, also expect to see the most "interesting" weaves and hairstyles you have probably ever seen. You will rarely see a girl here wearing her real or natural hair. If you like immature, artificial girls/boys, then you will love most of the people here at Morgan State University and you?ll feel right at home. If you are lucky, you may find the one for you… but if you are classy, smart, and have sense that probably won't happen. Sorry. Did I mention the STD rate is high down here? We are considered to be in the "DC Area".

Dorm life is rough and horrible. Living in Blount, I can honestly say that this place is crazy. Most of the fakest (normally, underclassmen) girls at Morgan reside here. We have "visitation" rules, as if we were in jail or prison. On weekdays (Mon ? Thurs nights), visitation is over at 10:30? yes 10:30. On Friday and Saturday nights it's over at 12… and on Sundays, 11 o?clock… as if we were in Kindergarten!!!! It is pretty much impossible to have visitors spend the night here at Blount towers, or any of the other dorms located directly on campus (except for Thurgood… and of course the indirect dorms like Marble Hall, and MorganView). It doesn?t help that people are outside smoking blunts and black and milds every night near Blount and Rawlings; this is never going to convince the school to extend visitation hours! The cops hang out around here, knowing that many students stand outside and smoke weed. Shoot? some cops stand out there with the people that smoke!!! The girls in Blount always act up… and half the time, there is no visitation at all!! Like really, how old are we????!!! Once you lose visitation in your dorm, you can't visit other people in their dorms either (unless it's off campus or at Thurgood, MorganView, or Marble Hall). Also, the girls here (random girls) have a tendency of creating "false fire drills" by randomly pulling fire alarms in the building, forcing us all the go outside at any point in time. We've even been outside for several hours during the middle of the night (waiting for the fire/police dept. to show up and give us the ok to go back in)… and we all know Baltimore isn't the safest place, especially at night (even on campus)!!! There's also this big pond/ditch looking thing in front of Blount and Rawlings where the rats reside. I've even heard rumors that rats run all through the dorms, particularly Rawlings. Also, there are many fights on this campus (Yes… fights!!!! In college!!!!) Most of them happen in front/behind Rawlings and Blount. Did I mention that many people have been robbed right here on campus?

I didn't even mention the weekends here on campus. When I say there is NOTHING to do out here on weekends, I mean it!!! If you walk outside, between the hours of 5AM and 9PM on Saturdays, expect to see no one outside (and this is throughout the entire campus). Never expect any dorm parties… EVER!!!! The only thing to do here on the weekends is go to the club (which I already mentioned, is overpriced and HIGHLY overrated). The clubs don't even start until 10 or 11 o'clock. So the campus is dead until about 9 when you see people going outside to get ready and leave for the club (most of them take the shuttle). The people that have it really good, go home during weekends. I don't live that close, so I'm not always lucky enough to go home. If I had my way I would go home each and every weekend… or at least get away from here. If you don't have a car here, you're pretty much screwed over (transportation wise)! However, an alternative is the MTA bus system that can get you back and forth throughout Baltimore, but if you don't know Baltimore… or know where you're going, you could get seriously lost!

Last but not least, the food. The Rawlings Dining hall (better known as the ?Refac?) has the most generic food you will ever taste in your life. I will admit, they do have their good days? and certain things they make taste good, but most of the food there is average, especially the dinner food! If you want better food, try and go to the Canteen. The Canteen actually has great food, but don?t wait too late to try and go there? they?re supposed to close at 7, but usually they close before 7 o?clock (and aren?t open at all on the weekends!!). Rawlings is open every day. The dining hall closes at 8 (Monday ? Fridays) and at 6 (Saturdays & Sundays). So what do you do if you?re hungry after, those times??!!! You have to figure it out yourself, sorry!

So, in conclusion? if you want a rewarding, fun college experience, I would recommend that you don?t waste your time and come to Morgan State University. If you are smart, classy, and real there is a severely strong possibility that you will be unsatisfied, disappointed, and will want to transfer? like me, and many other people I know. Do yourself a favor and go to a better school.
