It
has been many years since I was a student at
Moody. I loved the school, the professors and made
many friends. It is a school where you go
if you are a Christian and you want to grow
in your beliefs. I did not go into full time
Christian work and found it a great learning environment.
Many people go to a liberal arts school and
never get a job in their field. When I
was a student there were also people who disliked the
school. That is true of all schools. But
many more felt honored and excited to be there and
to have the many opportunities that were available just by
being in downtown Chicago area. The problem with so
many websites like this is that pretty much the only
people who write are those who are very unhappy with
their experience. I still believe that you
get out of education and that experience what you are
willing to put into it. Some want to play
the “blame” game instead. I find it surprising that
many of those unhappy did not just leave at the
end of the first semester but went there for several
years. Makes you believe that the school wasn't the
only problem. I would suggest that people looking at
a school be careful in deciding something totally on the
negative comments found in this or any other website about
ANY school.
I found a lot of students didn't socialize that much and left MBI. I can't blame them--b/c I made a good effort to 'hang out' and found it to be a pretty dull boring school. I bet 30-40% actually graduate, and many of those people REALLY wanted out even by their junior year and were just sticking it out. I don't think MBI is anything like it was back in the 1970s--when people probably socialized a lot. Now it comes off as unfriendly commercialism.

One more thing--I suspect women have it slightly better than men at MBI--b/c there are easily more men than women.

People were just plain MUCH friendlier in 1960s and 70s, and the students at MBI were no different. I attended MBI in late 90s, and found it quite unfriendly and would expect it to be only slightly better now--not b/c of in-person friendliness but b/c of things like Facebook, etc. So yes, the view that MBI is not that friendly has some real merit today.
