I was a chem pH.D student in this university. I graduated after 5 years of learning nothing. My advisor did not ADVISE me. He is barely even in school. He only showed up 20min every week. I had to finish my research project and write my dissertation all by myself( BTW, he didn't even read my dissertation before my defending, all my colleagues were in the same situation. The worst thing was, the dept and school knew this bad situation, and they didn't do anything about it. I was struggling to finish my degree. I was falling into an bad depression.I even had suicide thoughts sometime at the last 3 years. I was a TA for 5 years, most of the undergrad students here are good, they want to learn things. But still a lot of them are arrogant, and have high school mentality. I was an international student. So, if they got bad grades, they blamed my accent which my American friends said my English is very good with little accent. And other people ( people I met in conference meeting, and people from different department said that too). BTW, I feel there is discrimination going on in this school especially in the administration. Overall, I do not recommend this University. If you are average IQ, and want to learn, don't go to South Dakota State University.
