I applied and am attending parsons based on the supposed merit and notoriety that the school upholds. however, contrary to mine and my my families experience at the school, it is not at all what was expected. initially, in the admissions process, it was a NIGHTMARE. getting ahold of anyone that could be remotely helpful was a dream come true. The process of housing, financial aid, applying, getting ANY INFORMATION went in complete circles and it wasn't until a week before classes that i actually got my schedule or met my advisor. once in the school, the atmosphere was what i expected from a ny school(being where i am from) - a little cold, individualistic and snooty(which is not a negative for me). However the caliber of work being produced by the assumed "best design students is the country" is well sub-par from what I expected. not only is the environment not a collaborative one where students are inspired by one another, but the level of enthusiasm and devotion is far below where they should be. the school makes you take a lot of superfluous classes, unrelated to your major to make it seem as though you are getting a thorough education of 18credits/semester.The student body has difficulty producing quality work that they are proud of whether that be due to the work or otherwise, but they also have difficulty articulating thoughts about work and contributing to a make a quality critique session. the disorganization and mismanagement of the school follows resonates on all levels and never ends. I'm staying for a semester and transferring to SVA. Final thought: PARSONS IS A CORRUPT ENTITY THAT IS A BUSINESS FIRST AND A SCHOOL SECOND. I believe their reputation will soon diminish.
