You have to come into Nova knowing that it is a community college. I went in as a early graduate at 16 because I didn't feel I was old enough to go off to a big university, regardless of where I was accepted. Instructors and professors at Nova come from some of the really great schools surrounding. Most of them do not teach exclusively at Nova, it is merely a suppliment to positions at American, Georgetown, George Mason, Howard, etc. Those that are not career instructors are already successful in their chosen fields of study or retired successfuls. That being said you also have to acknowledge the negative of a community college. There is no screening process for who gets in so chances are that you will end up with some burn outs and dumbasses in your classes, who may very well fail out or drop out. Don't be concerned with everyone else if you really are there to learn and you choose your professors well (I highly recommend ratemyproffessors.com) then you will get way more of an education than you've paid for. Obviously Nova's extracurriculars suck, as do most commuter campuses. But once again, where Nova excells is in the academics for those who WANT it. If you don't want good challenging material, you will be able to find classes that hand out As, but thats not all that is available.Nova is a great springboard for those looking to go to a university but need that little college start. Community colleges are synonymous with Jr. colleges for a reason, they're a stepping stone to the big leagues.
