Polytechnic is a very good school. Upon graduation I have worked with graduates from UCLA, USC, UC Irvine. Although these schools are highly ranked in the unofficial national college rankings I believe I was better prepared for the work force than my coworkers. This is attributed to Poly's policy for "Guided Learning" where the professors insist you take the initiative and apply your analytical and research skills to solve problems on your own. FOLKS…YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO THE SAME IN THE WORK FORCE I.E. PROPOSE A SOLUTION AND ALTERNATIVES BEFORE ASKING YOUR BOSS FOR HELP. As a student I too complained about useless programming classes, overly difficult coursework, the excessive workload and those arrogant professors who in my mind refuse to help. I learned to think critically, to perservere and to overcome which are vital skills for the workforce. Poly was very expensive but given the high salary potential I now believe it was a bargain. Please don't base your decision to go to a school base on others opinion and whether or not they have good parties or a nationally ranked football team. Poly is a REGIONAL school and is highly respected within NYC. Poly will not only give you a good education and make you a hard worker it almost gurantee you a high paying job in some of america's best/top companies. I graduated in 1999 with offers from BOVIS, LA COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS, NYC DEP, CON EDISON, EXXON, KIWI, AND PERINI. This does not include the countless amout of request for interviews from other top companies that I declined. In my opinion, this is a better measure of the quality of POLY not US News rankings. I am happy I attended POLY and would highly recommend it.
