Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I currently go to Marquette and wanted to come here since I was a junior in high school. I came here for the academics but also because of scholarship I earned. The academics here are great with the requirements of narrow and broad classes that help make the student great in their field along with having knowledge of different ones so they have more "value" in the workplace. The social life here is perfect if you like going to random apartments or houses and drinking. It's a midwest thing to drink all the time so you will be at home here if you like that. I don't drink and there isn't enough of a minority of that on campus to have fun on weekends or "Thursday Thursday" so I would stay clear of here if you don't drink. Also, the city of Milwaukee is great for the few students who venture outside of it to go to concerts or sporting events. Even an art show or two didn't hurt anybody and thought it was a great way to escape campus. I got blessed with two terrible and violent roommates who would get drunk and then beat each other or threaten to beat me up in my sleep, yeah its been fun…Also, don't believe the statistics of everyone being from out of state, it's quite decieving. Milwaukee is so close to Chicago that they should just call them instate kids because every kid is from the following places: Illinois, Minnesota, or Wisconsin. I'm from Arizona and found around 5 kids from the West or East coasts. The food here is not great but it isn't amazing. Choices are limited. Oh also on weekends, this campus has a lot of kids leaving to go see mommy and daddy. So if you are from 5 hours away or farther, don't plan on a lot of kids staying to hang out because the ones that do are getting wasted on Killbourne. I'm currently planning on transferring to some other university. The basketball here, which is a reason why i picked here, is quite lacking when it comes to school spirit and a cheering section. If you have even seen a Madison game, you will cry when you see Marquette. It is pathetic, and most cheers are taken from other schools. For God's sake, we took our fight song from GEORGETOWN!!All that aside, it is a perfect fit if you want to experiment with some drinking in random houses super close to campus, study hard, and live life on campus. Also if you live in the midwest, welcome home, if you are from somewhere farther, look elsewhere because Marquette will not fit you. Then again, I was looking for good academics which I found here, a good school spirit for games (quite lacking), and social weekends where parties aren't just sitting in a living room drinking from a keg, a little music never hurt anyone or even this city. The city is great but no one ever wants to explore so you are confined to campus unless you know upper class men and have access to a ride.I won't add more on all the positives because the website has all of that along with majors. However, if you do engineering (I was Biomedical Engineering before I switched) if you don't like it and want a biology field, you might want to leave because Marquette's program is not a great biology program. This school is made for engineers, dentists, lawyers, and businessmen and businesswomen. Remember this in case your interest change. If I knew what I did now about Marquette when I got accepted, I would not have even considered going here.
