I came in to Oakland University not really knowing what to expect. Oakland is a good college, and I am happy with my decision. OU is growing each and every year and becoming more known from a national standpoint. From academics to athletics, the university is looking to have a bright future.

More and more students are deciding to live on campus. The last two years, the residence halls have been packed, and there has been talk of building more in the future. You get to know the people are campus pretty well, which can be different than some larger residential colleges. During the week there are many students wandering around OU's campus. On the weekend it dies down a little bit, but there are many parties to go to and things to do around Rochester.

From an academic standpoint, I am pretty impressed. Oakland is not an easy 4.0. I obtained a 3.9 in high school and have a 3.3 here at OU so far, and I am working pretty hard. Sure, I am having fun, but I have not let my academics slip. Many of the classes and professors really push you to do your best. There is a mix of both larger sized lecture hall classes and smaller classrooms. You are able to pick your classes and know all the information about them online before you register, which is nice. It is really all about what you prefer.

The sports teams here at OU are taking national attention on some levels. I know the basketball team is always good, the swimming and diving team is always the best in the conference and ranked in the country, and the soccer team has been in the national ranks this year. Other programs are growing as well.

Overall, Oakland is a good college if you want a fair mix of high education and a having fun.
