Date: Dec 28 2009 Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time) EMU is underrated. This is partially due to the fact that we have the big Maze n' Blue down the street from us. With that being said, Eastern has some major pros and cons.PROSYou get to really know your professors and most of them genuinely care about you. It's easy to keep up correspondence with your teachers and they will take time out to talk with you about almost anything. Lot of support from the various academic and financial offices. Your fellow students are nice. Some of the buildings are beautiful (The SC, the library, Porter, McKinney, Welsh, Ford, Boone, and Starkweather)There is almost ALWAYS something going on at the student center or somewhere on campus. Free Friday night movies, speeches, guest speakers, give aways, concerts, sporting events, jazz and comedy lounges, among other things. Ypsilanti, when you actually explore it, is awesome. Ypsi is far grittier than Ann Arbor but there is more charm here. Some of the great spots to eat would be Aubrey's and Side Tracks in Depot Town and some great places to party would be Club Divine and Pub13 in downtown. Between Depot Town and downtown there are numerous little places to hang and explore (Frog Island, Cafe Luwake, the park). Just take a weekend and walk around and you'll see. (A bus goes from main campus to downtown but both downtown and Depot Town are about a mile away so you could walk)CONSThis school is pretty easy. Some people call me smart (I graduated at the age of 19) but some of the course work is truly not all that difficult. What a lot of the work was was time consuming. A lot of little busy projects that get in the way of the massive project that needs to be done. I spent most of my time day dreaming about girls than reading textbooks (for some classes, your textbook is your life). The reputation is perceived as being bad. Folks will look down on you if you say you went to EMU and will ask
Why not the University of Michigan?
What makes this worse is the fact that a large number of EMU students will not sport their school's colors but instead be decked out in MSU or UofM colors. Some of the buildings are ugly such as the Mark Jefferson (which is currently being remodeled), Pray Harold (which has remodeling plans), Strong, all of the dorms, the college of business, and the towers.Ypsilanti is also a very interesting place after dark… A bit of crime goes on and it seems like there is a mugging every week. There are far too many stupid students walking around. The faux gangsters, the posers, and genuinely dumb fools… Eastern could literally get rid of a third of its student population and the academics would improve.
