The University of Pittsburgh - Greensburg

UPG is good if you're: (1.) commuter (2.) don't like parties or nightlife (3.) parents work here (4.) local and went to high school with all the other students here.

If you did not fit into the above, then you should either try getting into main campus or go somewhere else completely. I'll tell you why:

ACADEMICS: Midly challenging sometimes pretty easy.. All depends on the professor and your major. Classes are a decent small size. But, since it's a small campus, you are limited with variety and how many other class openings there are. Professors are personable, but some can be hit or miss.

SPORTS/CLUBS/EXTRACURRICULARS: Not much at all, especially at the D3 level. Not enough people join them. The sports teams are a joke (my high school had more talent). Hardly any school spirit. The gym is run-down and old.

STUDENT BODY: Mostly commuters.. the ones that live on-campus mostly live anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour away so they leave on friday and return sunday. The whole campus shuts down on Friday and everyone leaves. It's also a dry campus so not many parties. It's also pretty easy to get caught. Most people went to high school together, but you can still make "some" friends if you try. There's not much athletic or academic talent either. You can tell that this school has a huge turnover rate with low standards and hardly any one cares about making something of themselves at all. How could you be so distracted on a very small, dry, boring campus? Not much diversity either. Oh, I forgot to mention, no frats/sororities. This should be a boarding school because it lacks the energy and facilities that make up the true college experience

HOUSING: Not too bad, but if you don't like walking far, avoid living in the Courts. A lot of the RA's spend most of the time busting people for drinking.

ADVISING: They are unorganized, arrogant, rude, and clueless. They really don't tell you much and you basically have to figure it out yourself.

CAMPUS SECURITY: Only cares about giving out parking tickets and confiscating alcohol. They're not helpful if something of yours was stolen or you have other problems.

FACILITIES: Most buildings are in decent shape and well kept. Smith Hall is old and has outdated classrooms. Not a bad campus if the tuition was $6,000 a year opposed to the ridiculous 11k or higher. It's an expensive way to deal with the crappy conditions and lacking atmosphere of a college.

FOOD: Let's just say on some days you can be satisfied, but mostly you feel like you're eating hospital food. I don't think my dog would even want it. Plus they have weird hours and the weekends have even shorter hours. Doesn't satisfy a decent diet if you live in a dorm and have to rely on their crap. There's also not much other food places on campus or variety.

SURROUNDING AREA: Not much of a nightlife at all in Greensburg. There are a lot of places to buy stuff and eat food, but you have to drive 5 or more miles to get that. Pittsburgh is only 30 minutes away so spend your time up there, because you won't get anything at UPG. There's nothing within walking distance. Bring a car! My best advice or become friends with someone that has one.
