Major: Language - French/Spanish/etc. (This Major's Salary over time)
I just want to say (as a a transfer student from UT-Austin) that the Language department at UNT is top notch despite inhabiting a rather old building in need of renovation. I am currently majoring in French and Spanish; throughout my time at UT I felt as if the department only viewed me as a zit on its proverbial forehead. I finally threw in the towel when my adviser said that double majoring in the two languages would provide no significant job opportunities (while devouring a muffin over my paperwork) and actually rushed me out of the door with an insincere promise to put Spanish as my alternative major. For over three months I had to repeatedly deal with unhelpful professors and a faculty that was plainly overworked by the 60,000 student body.Upon attending UNT I quickly found a different environment. Professors will go in depth about not only linguistics but also devote a lot of their time towards cultural understanding. This has proved immensely helpful as I hope to one day teach English overseas. Like I said, the language building is homely but old. I hope that the recent phase of renovation hitting the science departments will soon spread.
