Major: Nuclear Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
As a non-traditional student, it often seems that my age has determined how instructors have interacted with me. Often times it has seemed that students coming into the engineering program are met with more leniency, regardless of actual situation. Currently I am wasting a portion of my GI Bill to re-take a course that I failed because of a power failure. The instructors for courses I have struggled in have been slow to respond to questions or concerns, and often seem either to worried about normal working hours, or research than the success of students. Instructors in the nuclear area of the department are generally very willing to help, and are much more interested in students than many of the instructors of the larger lectures and cross major courses. Many of the instructors for undergraduate general education courses that have and am taking sometimes seem defensive when they learn that I am a mechanical and nuclear engineering major, almost to the point of being defensive; however in many of these courses I am the only engineering student in that particular section or course.
