Wow, what can I say about the University of Tennessee? If you are considering UTK, please, please, please consider other options and alternatives. Like all large, in-state schools, UT has all types of students and faculty. Most of the students, however, are very belligerent and drunken fools, and I can not really say much better for the faculty. I do not believe that UTK has anything of quality to offer. Supposedly we have a good football team, but our greatest accomplishments for the last 5 seasons have been close loses to Florida and Alabama, and almost every other SEC football team, so if you are into sports, then do not think UT is going to be heaven for you. I do not really know much about the Greek life here, but you can probably find better elsewhere if it is anything like the other aspects of UT. As for the students and faculty, there is good and bad. UT is a massive state school, so there is a large mix of all types of people. As far as academics go, UT is the pinnacle of mediocracy. Do not think that you will get even a half way decent education unless you are into forensic anthropology ( the one thing UT excels at: dead people… how appropriate). The campus is decrepit and Knoxville is by far one of the worst places to live. There is absolutely nothing here for you. UT is not a school you want to go to, and if you want to go to a large state school, then consider Georgia or Alabama or anywhere else. It will be worth the out of state tuition, trust me. Email me if you want to know more. Good luck.

questionSo what other school in TN would you recommend? I'm transferring from Alabama and need to go to a TN public.
responseThere are no schools worth recommending in this state. I should have gone thousands of miles away, but here I am at 22 having wasted a large part of my life rotting away in this hellish city. Don't let the same happen to you.
comment…unless you don't give a shit about anything other than football…in that case you will love it. Can't wait to get my degree and get out of here.
responseUnfortunately I must agree with the first response. Vanderbilt is a great school if you want to consider that. Look at other state schools. If you're already out of state then tuition will be the same at most other schools.
commentThis review is an extreme exaggeration. I love UT. I don't feel like going through each individual point, but I will say that I disagree with everything this person has written. I am a Classics and Poli Sci double major, and I love my classes. I come from out of state, so that might make me love it and appreciate it a little bit more than someone from Tennessee. I think the people, traditions, and academia of this school are great!
questionI would like to know about the civil engineering program. I am considering to transfer to UT
commentOne of my best friends, and neighbor, is in the the Civil Engineering program and he seems QUITE satisfied. He has already had THREE co-op jobs, and he didn't have to search far and wide to find them either! The Engineering programs here are wonderful and you will not have a problem finding a job or internship.

To the original poster: While it seems like everyone here at UT is a douche bag, there are great people here that make great friends (guys and girls). I have eight close friends that I live with/around at Grand Forest, and I can't imagine my life without them. I met the guys in my dorm (all non-frat), and the girls through a friendly girl in one of my math classes (all non-sorority).

My overall point is that there are some fun, friendly, open-minded individuals at this university - you just have to make yourself accessible.

Good luck on the rest of your undergraduate career. I graduate in 2 days :)

Vanderbilt is a great school. Otherwise, go out of state. UNC, Florida, Georgia, and Georgia Tech are all good schools.
questionI am actually wanting to go into forensic anthropology, so of course UT is my top choice. I just applied and am awaiting a response. SO you are saying that the classes and teachers for that major are good compared to others?
commentHaha this is crazyy!! I want to go to a christian school, I really do but everyone i look at has bad baaad reviews - haha and I'm from miami FL i wouldnt reccomend coming to school here unless you speak spanish and are willing to have everyone respond to you in spanish when you talk to them in English
