I owed a small balance after my first year at Barry and did not receive my report card (and did not know my grades). I was told by a person in the Financial Aid office that my report card

might turn up if I paid my balance.

I took a year off from school, found a waitressing job, paid my balance and then transferred to another university. I never received my report card and ended up having to order a transcript to see my grades.

I went on to earn my Bachelors and my Masters.

I still remember how the Financial Aid Officer manipulated me. I was not treated like a person… Also, my married adviser tried to date me (but I'll save that story for another day).
