Lincoln University is definitely a school that has to grow on you. When I first arrived at Lincoln I hated it. I thought the campus was dirty, dorms subpar, food mediocre at best and that the student body reflected a bunch of idiots who came to Lincoln as a last resort. But after staying for a semester, my outlook regarding Lincoln started to change. I got more involved around campus, started to make more friends, began to apply myself in classes and realized that Lincoln wasn't so bad. Now, one year later, I love Lincoln. I feel like it's taught me so much about myself, African American culture (outside of that reflecting inner-city youth), and how to deal with people. I've had the opportunity to meet truly outstanding faculty and take on a variety of positions of leadership all around campus. One thing that I have noticed is the overwhelming number of people who don't seek to achieve academically, aren't involved around campus and who don't seem to take control of their own future, and yet say things like:
Lincoln isn't preparing me for the real world
when in fact it CAN. The thing is that at Lincoln you can skate by for four years and still obtain your degree. No one will force you to really make the effort to learn at your full potential. Some people can't grapple with that, and as a result blame their own mediocrity on the university. It?s like most of the people who complain about Lincoln?s mediocrity are those who are the root of it.

In short, I'd argue that Lincoln is most definitely what you make of it. Your attitude will affect how much you enjoy your matriculation here. Additionally, I'd urge incoming students to quickly learn how to balance academics vs. social life and to get as involved as possible. Lincoln has an almost endless amount of student resources and opportunities, but you?ve got to go out and take advantage of them.

Lincoln Pride all the way!
