I actually attended CConline which is the online program at Cerro Coso Community College. So I can't say much for the actual campus. However, I can say that the quality of education offered in the online program is surprisingly high for a community college. I was impressed at the direct communication with faculty and students that I got online. The online classes are true to teachers styles; they don't make me feel disconnected from people. I am a very social and—I hate to admit it—lazy person. I was a little wry about attending an online college because I was afraid to sacrifice a social life or be subjected to becoming a self-motivated independent learner. Such was not the case. I realized that although I wasn't going to become life long friends with any of the students I met online I had much more time to hang outwith my friends outside of school because i could complete my homework at non-traditional hours. As to being self-motivated: you really only need to be as self-motivated as you would be in traditional classes. The teachers make sure that due dates are posted, weekly assignments are clearly stated, lectures are helpful just like a typical class and the teachers post grades swiftly and are willing to help if the grade is less than satisfactory. The only thing that I would say is a negative about this college is that some of the teachers impose their agenda unwelcomed into the course material. Unfortunately, this is pressent in both traditional and online schools. One more note, this school is very welcoming to home school and high school students. The staff is friendly and everyone is easy to get a hold of. Including the counselors who never wait more than a day to return my phone calls.
