I'm leaving a neutral comment simply because this is just my experience with the art department. However some of the general education courses are not up to par and I've had poor teaching.

The art department at Belmont is new. It is also tiny. So there's not much to compete with. And there aren't many students who are passionate about their work. As a devoted artist, Belmont was a depressing environment for me. I wanted competition and exposure and friends who were equally as passionate about their field as I was. Too many of the students spend too much time being BFFS with their instructors than working hard. I've had a few really great instructors, you have to be really careful who you choose. There are also some terrible ones that I've always tried to avoid. The students are average and even the better ones don't stand out all that much compared to what I've seen outside of this school. Even though I commute the campus life is boring. The foundation courses are really helpful however and I've improved a lot ever since starting here. But foundations are all they've got. Unless you want to be a graphic designer with a mediocre job, I would not recommend this school. Oh, and not to mention that the convocation system is complete BS. It's a trick to get you to stay longer and pay more money if you don't get enough hours in. I've met many people who fell into this trap.

So if you're a serious artist looking for competition and talent and connections, this is NOT the place for you. Go to a real art school. I'm trying to transfer to one.
