If I have any advice for new students, it is to keep a sunny disposition at the cost of your mental health. Always make sure you have something nice to say about about everything. Cynical people are literally ostracized. I was kicked out of this school indefinitely because I made people feel generally uneasy. No basis in fact or law on which to kick me out, the deans just didn't like me. Folks here are overly sensitive and detached from reality. Not all of them mind you, you can't put every fish in one net. I have met some real warriors here, but the truth is that this is not the place to sharpen your mind or learn to think reliably/trust yourself. The truth is that I got something from this school. I learned something about myself, and that is that you won't find the hardest answers to your deepest questions by looking externally. By looking externally, I mean a school that is struggling so hard with its identity, yet so rigid in its convictions about meditation and Maharishi's Madness that it will drive a person mad. Faculty will tell you that the main reason students come to this school is to reach enlightenment. However, there is no room for enlightened beings in the spiritual marketplace. Its a sad truth that the school can not distinguish the difference between a spiritual institution and an educational institution. The place has potential, but as long as the school is funded by the Transcendental Meditation movement, it will always be a mess. The school is particularly scared of being sued, which is due in large part to a murder that occured in the cafeteria in 2004/5. This is why they changed the name from Maharishi International University to MUM… This has alot to do with why they are so scared of students who seem externally dissatisfied or angry about things. There are other problems, the roads are not well maintained (my car hit a pothole that popped the tire), the dorms have serious black mold issues (that no one talks about, for risk of legal action), safety in fire exits is compromised for the sake of "sthapatya ved" style of building which dictates that the only practical entrances to a building are east and north. This place is great if you want to be a lazy, loathesome, 20-something-year old kindergartner for the rest of your life. If you are there to get real and get an education, get the fuck out. That's all I got to say.
